**Stainless Steel 440B Sheets and Plates** are martensitic stainless steels with a high carbon content of 16–18% chromium, approximately 0.75% carbon, and traces of manganese, silicon, and molybdenum. This composition enables the material to attain a tensile strength of 740–950 MPa following heat treatment, with high hardness and good corrosion resistance in milder environments. SS 440B has better toughness and edge retention than 440A but is easier to machine than 440C. It is magnetic and hardenable by heat treatment, making it appropriate for wear-intensive uses.
