Stainless Steel 439 Plates and Sheets contain mostly iron with 17–19% chromium, low carbon content (≤ 0.03%), and titanium stabilization (≤ 0.50%) to avoid intergranular corrosion. Being a ferritic grade, it is not heat treatment hardenable and has medium mechanical strength with tensile strength of approximately 450–600 MPa and good elongation. The alloy has outstanding resistance to corrosion in mildly corrosive environments and is particularly resistant to stress corrosion cracking. Its low nickel content also renders it economical compared to austenitic stainless steels.
