Stainless Steel 317 is an austenitic stainless steel with molybdenum content having chromium (18–20%), nickel (11–15%), and molybdenum (3–4%). With this composition, it has better corrosion resistance than 316, particularly in acidic and chloride environments. SS 317 has good mechanical properties with high tensile strength and resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress-corrosion cracking. Its increased strength and workability feature it for heavy-duty and corrosive conditions of service.
