Stainless Steel 316L is a low-carbon form of SS 316, consisting primarily of chromium (16–18%), nickel (10–14%), and molybdenum (2–3%) with lower carbon content to increase resistance to intergranular corrosion after welding. It has superior mechanical properties, such as high tensile strength, good toughness, and excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride-filled and acidic environments. Its low carbon content also enhances weldability without sacrificing corrosion performance.
