Shipbuilding steel is usually composed of carbon, manganese, silicon, phosphorus, and sulfur with micro-alloying ingredients like niobium or vanadium. For AH36 grade, the yield strength is about 355 MPa and tensile strength is in the range of 490–620 MPa. These plates are highly resistant to impact and welding even in low temperatures. They are normalized or thermomechanically rolled to enhance mechanical performance. Corrosion resistance can be achieved through coatings or alloying based on the marine environment.
