SA537 Class 2 is normalized, pressure vessel-quality carbon-manganese-silicon steel plate that has better mechanical properties compared to Class 1. Its composition can range from carbon (0.24% max), manganese (1.10–1.60%), silicon (0.13–0.45%), and minor levels of phosphorus, sulfur, and other elements used as alloying elements. SA537 Class 2 has superior tensile strength (≥ 620 MPa), yield strength (≥ 485 MPa), impact resistance, and is suitable for service at elevated temperatures and welded pressure vessels.

Tempering : Notch toughness can be improved by quenched cooling from hot rolling or normalizing by the supplier. If such a faster cooling rate is agreed upon between purchaser and supplier then the steel is also to be tempered at 1200 F.
