Its mechanical properties consist of tensile strength of about 520–655 MPa and adequate yield strength, with excellent thermal cycling dimensional stability. Kovar is weldable, brazable, and workable to some degree. The alloy does not lose its mechanical strength and low gas permeability and is suitable for vacuum and sealed applications. Its glass and ceramic compatibility is fundamental to its application in microelectronic and aerospace applications.
