Alloy 20 contains nickel (32–38%), iron (remainder), chromium (19–21%), molybdenum (2–3%), and copper (3–4%). It is good at resisting pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking. The tensile strength of the alloy is approximately 551 MPa and the yield strength is 241 MPa, with good elongation characteristics. Alloy 20 is weldable and machinable and maintains strength at elevated temperatures and in acids. These characteristics make it suitable for severe chemical and marine environments where other stainless steel fails.
