420 Stainless Steel Sheets and Plates consist mainly of iron with 12–14% chromium and more carbon content in the range of 0.15% to 0.40%, allowing for hardening using heat treatment. They provide tensile strength of approximately 700–900 MPa and are characterized by high hardness, particularly after tempering. Though they have moderate corrosion resistance over austenitic grades, they are generally good in mild atmospheres and freshwater conditions. Stainless Steel 420 also exhibits good polishability and fair ductility, and hence can be used for functional as well as decorative purposes.
