Boiler Quality Plates are typically made from carbon-manganese steel with low sulfur and phosphorus content. Common grades include ASTM A516 Grade 60/70, which offers a tensile strength between 415 and 620 MPa and a yield strength around 260 to 415 MPa. These plates provide excellent notch toughness, high-temperature resistance, and good weldability. Their composition contains 0.20 to 0.30% Carbon, 0.90 to 1.50% Manganese, with minimal Silicon, Phosphorus, and Sulfur. Designed for pressure-retaining equipment, they are normalized to improve toughness and prevent brittle failure under high-pressure and high-temperature conditions.
